About Me

James Adams

I recognize that when an individual or family reaches a point where they are considering an evaluation, whether it is to understand how they learn or to identify an attention issues, the process can be overwhelming. I am passionate about helping students and their families understand how they learn best so that they can find the support they need. The first step is to determine if an evaluation is needed. If so, we explore what strengths an individual has as well as any challenges that may get in their way.

Every client has individual needs. I carefully consider the original referral, or what prompted the visit.  I have more than 20 years of experience conducting psychoeducational and school neuropsychological evaluations, and I am fully committed to my clients from our first meeting to the final feedback session. It is important to me that everyone understands the services I provide and feels comfortable asking questions before entering into this commitment. I want my clients to have clarity on what the end result can enable them to do.

It is vital to my practice that I am thorough and remain current in evaluation practices. After we have completed the evaluation, the feedback session is critical for a complete understanding of my findings. It is during the feedback session that we discuss  recommendations for interventions, accommodations, and/or support. I really enjoy this last part of the process where I can connect with my client and see how the findings resonate.

My years of experience as a school psychologist, working with students of all ages both inside and outside of the classroom, help in making relevant recommendations. I will always provide referrals for any services I recommend, and it is my goal to help formulate a plan based on insights gained through our sessions. Even after the final feedback session, I want my clients to know that they can contact me with any questions related to our work together.

As an associate professor and program director at Alliant International University, I oversee the doctorate program in educational psychology. I have presented on topics including school neuropsychology, learning differences, mental health in educational settings, and mindfulness in schools. This work has kept me current with the most effective practices. I am honored to be able to work with you.
